Every step after phone number is a user you might lose. Most fintech teams don't see the drop because they've never been new to their own product.

Brief
Product
Revolut
One-liner
Global money app — spend, save, send, and invest in 30+ currencies.
Target persona
Mobile-first adults aged 18–35 opening their first digital banking account.
Problem we were asked to analyze
Revolut's KYC onboarding requires 17 steps including biometric face scan, Onfido legal consent, and multi-field address entry. Identify where new users drop out, which friction points violate activation best practices, and what the highest-impact fixes are to improve completion rate.
Additional context
Flow analyzed: full first-time signup and KYC activation from splash screen through plan selection. 15 screens covering: phone number entry, SMS verification, push notification opt-in, country of residence with legal consent wall, name as in ID, date of birth (split 3-field), home address search, email, passcode creation, identity verification fork (Singpass vs. documents), Onfido document scan with blurry photo error state, selfie instructions, face oval scan, and plan selection. Known context: Revolut's biggest competitor in Turkey is Papara and YapıKredi mobile. KYC abandonment is the primary acquisition bottleneck. The 17-step onboarding is longer than industry median (Wise: 9 steps, N26: 11 steps). Onfido's document scan (with blurry photo error) and push notification interrupt before identity collection are known friction points with no industry-standard equivalent in competing products. Country of residence screen includes 3 legal consent links (Revolut Privacy Policy, Lead Bank Privacy Policy, E-sign Consent) before the user can continue.
